PONTIAC, Mich. – Jennifer Crumbley, the mother of the Oxford High School shooter who killed four people, is on trial for involuntary manslaughter in connection with her son’s mass shooting. The latest updates can be found here.
The shooter was sentenced in December to life in prison without the chance of parole.
Witnesses have included Oxford High School staff, law enforcement and members of the community who knew the family. A full list of the witnesses and videos of their testimonies can be seen below.
Thursday, January 25:
Witness 1: Molly Darnell
Oxford High School teacher Molly Darnell was called as the first witness. Darnell was among the seven wounded in the shooting. She had previously provided a victim impact statement during the shooter’s sentencing in December.
Witness 2: Kristy Gibson-Marshall
The second witness called was Kristy Gibson-Marshall, The assistant principal at Oxford High School was called as the second witness. She was in the cafeteria at the time of the shooting.
Witness 3: Cammy Back
Cammy Back is the office manager at the gun store where the Crumbleys bought the gun that was used during the shooting. She said she previously worked at the counter for gun sales and was the one who sold the gun to James Crumbley.
Witness 4: Special Agent Brett Brandon
Special Agent Brett Brandon is with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF). He is currently assigned to the Pontiac Gun Violence Task Force, which investigates the criminal use of firearms in shootings.
Friday, January 26:
Witness 5: Edward Wagrowski
At the time of the shooting, Edward Wagrowski was working for the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office as a computer crime expert. He worked on the investigation into the parents and the shooter’s text messages and social media posts.
Monday, January 29
Witness 6: Kira Pennock
The sixth witness called to testify was Kira Pennock, who owns and runs the horse farm where Jennifer Crumbley and her husband kept their horses. They had moved their horses to her farm roughly three months before the shooting, but she knew them before that through another farm that they used to board horses at.
Witness 7: Shawn Hopkins
The seventh witness called to the stand was a counselor at Oxford High School at time of shooting. He is currently on leave. The shooter was one of the students who was assigned to Hopkins just before the shooting.
Witness 8: Sgt. Joe Brian
A detective sergeant with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office’s Special Investigations unit was the eighth witness called to testify. Sgt. Joe Brian had the same job at the time of the shooting.
He spoke with both parents shortly after the shooting.
Tuesday, January 30:
Witness 9: Nicholas Ejak
The first witness called on the fourth day of the trail was Nicholas Ejak, who was the dean of students at Oxford High School at the time of the shooting. It was his first year with the district and had been working there for roughly four months before the shooting.
Witness 10: Andrew Smith
The tenth witness called was Andrew Smith, the COO of a real estate company who is in charge of about 700 employees. He was Jennifer Crumbley’s boss and direct supervisor at the time of the shooting.
Witness 11: Amanda Holland
The third witness called Tuesday was Amanda Holland, who worked with Crumbley for Smith at the time of the shooting. She said they worked together for about two years, but didn’t socialize much outside of work.
Witness 12: Detective Adam Stoyek
The 12th witness was Adam Stoyek, a detective with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office. He has worked with the office for nearly four years, including at the time of the shooting. Stoyek conducted the search of the Crumbley’s home after the incident.
Witness 13: Sgt. Matthew Peschke
The 13th witness called was Sgt. Matthew Peschke, who has worked with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office for 20 years. He was part of the group of law enforcement that went through Oxford High School immediately after the shooting.
Witness 14: Robert Koteles
The final witness called Tuesday was Robert Koteles, a Oakland County Sheriff’s Office forensic lab and crime scene supervisor. He has a forensics science degree from Michigan State University does “major crime scenes” a couple times per month. Koteles was working in the lab when the Oxford High School shooting happened.
Wednesday, January 31:
Witness 15: Lt. Sam Marzban
Wednesday’s first witness was a detective lieutenant with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office. He worked on identifying the victims following the shooting.
Witness 16: David Hendrick
The 16th witness called to the stand was David Hendrick, who was a member of the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office’s Fugitive Apprehension Team at the time of the shooting. He has since retired.
Witness 17: Luke Kirtley
The third witness called Wednesday was Luke Kirtley. He owns a coffee company that has space in the building where the Crumbley parents were taken into custody and was the one to make the 911 call to report them.
Witness 18: David Shaw
The 18th witness called in the trial was Cpl. David Shaw. He works with the Detroit Police Department Special Response Team and was called to the building in Detroit where the Crumbleys were taken into custody.
Witness 19: Brian Meloche
The fifth witness called to the stand Wednesday was Brian Meloche, a high school friend of Jennifer Crumbley. It was later revealed that Crumbley was having an extramarital affair with Meloche at the time of the shooting. He said he had never met the shooter and that Jennifer Crumbley did not talk about him much.
Witness 20: William Creer
The 20th witness called to testify was William Creer, a forensic technician for the Detroit Police Department. He is a crime scene investigator and a civilian who works with the department. He was part of the team that collected evidence from where the Crumbley parents were taken into custody.
Thursday, February 1:
Witness 21: Lt. Timothy Willis
The first witness called to the stand on day six was Timothy Willis, a detective lieutenant with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office. He arrived at the school within 20 minutes of the shooting.
Witness 22: Jennifer Crumbley
The second witness called Thursday was the defendant, Jennifer Crumbley.
Friday, February 2
Witness 22: Jennifer Crumbley
Jennifer Crumbley took the stand again for cross-examination. This is the final testimony before closing statements and then the case will be decided on by the jury.
