Pontiac nonprofit receives 2 sizable donations in response to emergency food shortage

Families were limited to one box of food a month instead of two

PONTIAC, Mich.Pontiac nonprofit Lighthouse received two sizable donations Wednesday, which provided some much-needed assistance in response to their call for donations last week.

Local 4 showed you last week the severe shortage of emergency food supplies at Lighthouse in Pontiac.

They usually distribute two boxes of food per month to about 5,000 families, but Lighthouse recently had to limit those families to one box per month due to a drop in funding and the higher cost of food.

The people at Fifth Third Bank saw our story, and on Wednesday (Jan. 31), they stepped forward with a donation of $10,000 to help the food pantry.

A company spokesperson says the goal is to spur others to contribute.

Lighthouse also received a $10,000 check from Wana Brands on Wednesday.
