DETROIT – A father was shot and killed while trying to stop some thieves from stealing his car on Detroit’s west side.
The incident occurred at All Stars Beverage near West Chicago and Meyers Road on Saturday (Feb. 3) at 11:15 p.m.
The memorial set up in the area of the shooting is a sad reminder of what took place when a man saw some people trying to steal his vehicle while taking out the trash.
“Thair was cool and a decent guy,” said Demetrius Johnson. “He didn’t deserve what he got. That didn’t make no sense.”
Police are looking for the men responsible for killing 43-year-old father and husband, Thair Dado, during a fatal carjacking.
“He made an attempt to run up to the car,” said Detroit Assistant police Chief Charles Fitzgerald. “The individual that jumped out of a burgundy Hyundai fired four rounds in his direction. He was able to retreat possibly 10-15 feet, where he collapsed.”
Dado noticed his car was being stolen while he was at work. He died on the scene after taking multiple bullets. But police were able to get a look at the four suspects, believed to be between the ages of 16 and 21.
“One young man had a black hoodie and a black mask,” Fitzgerald said. “One young man had a white hoodie with a partial mask on. Our shooter, who had a 9mm handgun, had a blue and black jacket on.”
The four suspects never got away with the car and took off in a burgundy Hyundai. Police are now looking for assistance in locating the men inside the vehicle.
“It’s missing its front bumper,” Fitzgerald said. “It’s very noticible. So we are asking our community for any help they can give us.”
“I hope the police catch the criminals that did this,” Johnson said. “My prayers go out to his family.”
