DETROIT – Chron’s disease is often an invisible disease and many suffer in silence. Currently there is no cure.
Hundreds of people got the chance to play flag football at Ford Field to raise money and awareness for the Michigan chapter of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation. Over the past six years, the flag football game has raised half a million dollars for the foundation.
Caleb Bingham had just graduated from college in 2010 when he was diagnosed with colitis. He said over the next four years he had four surgeries to remove part of his intestines.
Bingham traveled from Lyma, Ohio, to be part of the event at Ford Field. He said it was an amazing day for him and for his family. He was glad to have his kids there and be part of the event.
It is estimated that one in 200 people have Crohn’s disease or colitis, an inflammatory disease that affects the digestive system. It is said that events like the one held at Ford Field help break down the stigma and normalize conversations about the disease.
