Ohio man killed in single-vehicle rollover crash in Bedford Township

Alcohol, speed do not appear to be factors in crash

(WDIV)

BEDFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – An Ohio man was pronounced dead after witnesses say his vehicle drifted off the road and rolled over in Bedford Township.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said Jimmie R. Clarke, age 43, of Shelby, Ohio, was killed in the crash. He was driving a gray Volvo northbound on Lewis Avenue near Donald Drive at 3:35 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10, when the crash happened.

Witnesses told the sheriff’s office that the Volvo drifted across the centerline of the roadway, then went off the shoulder of Lewis Avenue and into a shallow ditch. The vehicle continued north and struck several small trees before rolling over and landing on its top.

Clark was transported to ProMedica Toledo Hospital in Toledo, Ohio where he was later pronounced dead. He was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The sheriff’s office said speed or alcohol do not appear to have been factors in the crash.

The crash is under investigation by Deputy Curtis Lewis and Deputy Hunter Chirillo of the Uniformed Services Division, along with Deputy Cody Carena and Deputy Nicholas Burkhart of the Traffic Services Division.
