SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – Police said a 15-year-old boy was in “grave condition” after being shot in the head at a Southfield hotel over the weekend.
On Sunday, Feb. 11, the teen boy was reportedly hanging out, unsupervised, in a hotel room at the Westin Hotel north of 10 Mile Road with two other minors. Authorities say first responders were called to the hotel at around 8:45 p.m. that day, and found the boy was shot once in the head.
The teen was treated at the scene and taken to the hospital, where he was listed in grave condition. Officials said the boy wasn’t expected to survive.
At least one of the two other teens present in the hotel room was facing charges as of Monday. Southfield police said one teen, a 15-year-old from Detroit, was found with two Glock pistols in their waistband. One of those guns was believed to be used in the shooting, and at least one of the guns was reportedly stolen.
That teen was taken into custody and charged with two counts of carrying a concealed weapon. Their identity won’t be released because they are a minor.
The third teenager at the scene was identified only as a Southfield resident. No charges had been brought against them.
Southfield police said an adult booked the hotel room in question, and that investigators were looking into that person. The adult may also face charges. Their identity has not been provided at this time.
The boy who was shot was identified only as a resident of Ferndale, and a sophomore student at Loyola High School in Detroit. Officials said the school would have grief counselors available for students and staff following the shooting.
