FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – Despite public outcry, the city of Farmington Hills is moving forward with replacing Marvin’s Marvelous Mechanical Museum and the strip mall it sits on with a Meijer.

The City Council voted in favor of the plan Monday night.

The development plan for Hunter’s Square Shopping Center at Orchard Lake and 14 Mile will demolish Marvin’s (the locally-famous spot for arcade games, pinball and some uniquely odd coin-operated machines) and put a Meijer in its place.

When the plans were first made public, a change.org petition to save Marvin’s from the wrecking ball was started and reached more than 50,000 signatures.

It’s unclear if Marvin’s will take its business elsewhere.
