Parents and children flocked to the Target Center in Minneapolis over the weekend to see Disney on Ice.
Parents told Local 4 that about 40 minutes into the show, Novi native Anastasia Olson, who was portraying Belle, went into a shaky lift with her partner and fell to the ice, hitting her head and then going into seizures.
A tent was put on the ice to give her medical care, and the lights dimmed. A short time later, she was taken to a Minneapolis hospital, and the show went on.
Olson is a well-known skater in Metro Detroit. She and her partner Jordan Cowan practiced at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube for years.
Their banner remains in the Olympic rink, along with their 2009 silver medal in the U.S. National Figure Skating Championships.
After her competitive career ended, she excelled at coaching young skaters and was touring with Disney on Ice when the accident happened.
Cowan, said it was a natural extension of her talents.
“It doesn’t surprise me at all that she stuck to skating,” Cowan said.
Her injuries are described as serious, but the hospital in Minneapolis says she’s in stable condition.
“I know for a fact that she’s a skater through and through,” Cowan said. “She’s going to get back on the ice some day soon I know that she’s a fighter and will do anything for this sport.”
