Blown red light believed to be cause of fatal crash in Macomb County

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A three-vehicle crash Monday, Feb. 12, killed a 63-year-old woman from Macomb Township and hospitalized three others.

It happened at the intersection of M-53 and 32 Mile Road in Washington Township at about 9:30 a.m. According to authorities, a 27-year-old woman driving a Ford Escape southbound on M-53 failed to stop at a red light at 32 Mile Road and T-boned a westbound Jeep on the passenger door. The Jeep then struck a Chevrolet pickup truck.

The driver of the Jeep, a 64-year-old man, and the passenger, a 63-year-old woman -- both from Macomb Township -- were hospitalized for their injuries, where the woman died. The driver is expected to survive.

The driver of the Chevrolet, a 68-year-old man from Oxford, and the driver of the Escape were also hospitalized and are expected to survive.

The crash remains under investigation.
