INKSTER, Mich. – An infant was left severely burned after a house fire this morning in Inkster.
The incident occurred right around 7:15 a.m. at home on Dartmouth Street, not too far from the intersection of Michigan Avenue and Inkster Road.
You can see how devastating the fire was. Lots of people are hoping the girl lives.
The early morning house fire left 1-year-old Harmony with burns on 60% of her body as she was still in her bed upstairs when the flames broke out.
“She’s burnt,” said grandmother Eartha Hubble. “Like 60% of her whole body. I’m like, ‘Oh my God.’”
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Hubble said she didn’t even know until it was too late.
“My neighbor next door knocked on the door, and he was like, ‘Y’all get out the house, it’s a fire,’” Hubble said. “I’m like, ‘It’s a fire?’ We didn’t hear the fire or smell it, you know.”
Six people were in the house, including Hubble, her son Arthur, and four grandkids, including Harmony. Harmony’s father was also severely burned trying to save her.
“He was up there, and he ran, and I could hear him hollering saying, ‘Oh my baby, my baby, oh my baby,’ Hubble said. “I’m like, ‘What’s going on, Arthur?’”
Crews from Inkster, Dearborn Heights, Wayne, Garden City, and Westland all responded to put out the flames.
Doctors are now working to save Harmony’s life.
“They sent her to Ann Arbor to see if she can get skin graphs,” Hubble said. “She’s on tubes. We are just praying for Harmony.”
We know the Red Cross is helping out. Just imagine how devastating that must’ve been for the entire family.
