Teen driver killed, 2 girls hurt in Oakland County crash

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – A teenage driver was killed and two girls were injured in a crash in Oakland County.

The crash happened Tuesday, Feb. 13, in the area of Westhampton Avenue and Evergreen Road in Southfield.

Officers tried to pull over a stolen Kia at the intersection, but the 19-year-old driver fled and crashed into a fence on Evergreen Road between Westhampton and Westover avenues, according to authorities.

The driver was taken to a nearby hospital, but he died from his injuries.

Two 17-year-old girls were also inside the Kia, police said. They were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Officials continue to investigate.
