DETROIT – An Oakland County woman was shot through a car door while she was on the freeway early this morning.

The shooting happened around 2:15 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, 2024, on the northbound Southfield Freeway ramp to I-96 in Detroit.

Officials said a 32-year-old Livonia man was driving with a 27-year-old Farmington woman in the front passenger seat. As he exited from the Southfield Freeway onto I-96, another vehicle pulled up alongside them, according to authorities.

Police said one shot was fired from the other vehicle. It went through the front passenger door and hit the woman in her thigh. The bullet did not penetrate her skin, officials said.

The Livonia man later pulled up behind a Michigan State Police trooper to report the shooting.

“We are extremely fortunate that the passenger was not seriously hurt in this incident,” Michigan State Police Lt. Mike Shaw said.

Troopers are investigating the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
