17-year-old found shot to death at Detroit-Grosse Pointe Park border

Investigation is ongoing.

DETROIT – Police are working to find answers after a 17-year-old was found shot to death along the Detroit-Grosse Pointe Park border.

Mack Avenue at Balfour Street was closed for several hours Friday, Feb. 16, as police investigated the scene.

Police said ShotSpotter alerted them to the shooting at about 1:30 a.m. When they got to the scene, they found the body of a 17-year-old.

“I just don’t think it’s worth it to be trying to shoot somebody over something that probably didn’t really make a difference anyway,” said Shannon Thomas-Clark, a resident of Detroit.

“Tragic. I mean a young life like that taken in such a short time like that,” said Tom Marciano, a Grosse Pointe Park resident said. “It’s not like it’s a car accident. It’s a senseless death.”

Police have been canvassing the area and looking at surveillance video from businesses and homes.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Detroit Police Department at 313-596-5500.
