TROY, Mich. – The manager of a grocery store in Troy admitted to stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars, according to the Michigan Department of Attorney General.

A Roseville man who used to work as a manager at Fresh Thyme Market in Troy is facing an embezzlement charge and a charge of using a computer to commit a crime.

Trevor Beaver, 31, is accused of embezzling at least $750,000 from the market from July 2022 through November 2023. Prosecutors said he stole the money from newly installed self-checkout kiosks. He is facing the possibility of life in prison.

Prosecutors said an audit system for the self-checkout machines was implemented in October 2023. It was around that time that accountants noticed a large amount of money missing from the Troy location.

Beaver is accused of scheduling himself as the only manager responsible for depositing the daily cash, even on his days off. An audit found discrepancies between the cash sales and deposits, with around $900,000 missing. Around $750,000 is believed to have been stolen by Beaver.

The case was investigated by the Department of Attorney General’s ‘FORCE Team’ and the Organized Retail Crime Unit. When confronted, Beaver admitted to embezzling the money, according to prosecutors.
