TROY, Mich. – A shooting outside Ruth’s Chris Steak House in Troy has left one person injured.
The shooting, which occurred on Monday (Feb. 19), has left the victim in stable condition.
Officials say the shooting was not a random incident as it happened while several people dined inside.
“I heard some pops, and I didn’t really think much of it,” said Jay Cucinella.
Cucinella was celebrating his 18th birthday with his family at the steakhouse when he heard those pops.
Troy police say the shooting happened outside of the restaurant, leaving a shattered glass door.
Local 4 arrived when investigators marked evidence, including shell castings left on the ground and an SUV, during their investigation.
One family says they were informed of the incident while dining.
“They gave us the option to be escorted out, or we could finish our dinner,” said Gaspare Cucinella. “Most people were scared, so they chose to finish their dinner, and maybe things would go away.”
People dining chose to stay inside until things calmed down and said they were shocked to see a shooting happen at the restaurant.
“We thought we’d come up north in this nice neighborhood here, and we were like, ‘Oh, yeah, we’re in a safe place, but maybe not,’” said Brigitte Evanoff. “So, yeah, it was shocking for us as we thought it was pretty safe out here, but it can happen anywhere.”
Police have not said if they’ve made any arrests, but they did ensure that there was not an elevated risk to the public.
