Michigan waitress who received $10K tip gets fired after making international headlines

Linsey Boyd said she was fired for drama over how tip was being divvied up

BENTON HARBOR, Mich. – When a customer left A $10,000 tip on a $32.00 bill for Linsey Boyd, she was flabbergasted.

The customer only requested that it be shared with everybody working at the Mason Jar Cafe in Benton Harbor that day.

A week later, Boyd was fired for drama over how the tip was being divvied up.

Boyd says some of her coworkers didn’t think it was fair, and she told her bosses about the grumbling.

“I at least made them aware of the things that were being said,” Boyd said.

She was fired shortly after. The restaurant won’t say why, just that it’s not about the tip.

She posted on social media how upset she was over being fired. That’s when she says she started getting threats from her former employer.

“I was told legal action was being taken against me and that if I wanted lawyers to be after me for the foreseeable future, I needed to take my post down,” Boyd said.

Boyd recorded those alleged threatening calls and instead got a lawyer of her own.

So far, no litigation has been filed. Boyd says she’s now without a job for the first time since she was fifteen.
