Michigan voters embrace early voting option with over 1M ballots cast ahead of primary election

More than 78K people have voted early in person

Ahead of the primary, more than one million ballots have been cast in Michigan, according to Michigan’s Secretary of State.

“For a presidential primary where each major party has a candidate with a commanding lead, we are still approaching half of the total turnout before election day for the entire 2020 presidential primary,” said Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson.

Benson said more than 934,000 voters have returned their completed absentee ballot, and more than 78,000 people have voted early in person.

This is the first year voters have had the option to vote early in person in a statewide election.

“It shows that Michigan voters when they have options to vote, they embrace those options,” Benson said.

Political strategists will watch for former President Donald Trump’s margin of victory in the Republican primary.

“I expect he will win by a margin of 40 percent or more. And I just don’t know how Nikki Haley can continue into Super Tuesday,” said Republican strategist Jason Roe.

They are also going to be looking at the number of uncommitted votes in the Democratic primary in protest of President Biden’s handling of the war in Gaza.

“If you are trying to influence this race, I would look to Ric Flair and say if you want to be the man, you got to beat the man. They are going to get 15 percent of the vote tomorrow tops,” Democratic strategist Joe DiSano said.
