EASTPOINTE, Mich. – A jury has convicted the neighbor of a Macomb County couple who were murdered outside their apartment building.

Dorian Mitchell and Christie Davis were found dead at 4:38 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, 2022, outside an apartment complex in the 16400 block of 10 Mile Road in Eastpointe.

Police said they found Mitchell lying in the parking lot with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Davis was found on the ground next to her car. She was taken to a hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds, but prosecutors said she died from her injuries.

Dennis Evans, 62, of Eastpointe, was identified as the shooter and arrested in San Antonio, Texas. His friend was taken into custody in Kansas and charged as an accessory.

On Friday, Feb. 23, 2024, a Macomb County jury convicted Evans on the following charges:

  • Two counts of first-degree premeditated murder -- maximum penalty of life without parole.
  • One count of felon in possession of a firearm -- a five-year felony.
  • One count of delivering/manufacturing 50-449 grams of a controlled substance -- a 20-year felony.
  • Three felony firearm second offenses -- five-year mandatory felonies.

The drug charge stemmed from a mixture of heroin and fentanyl found in Evans’ apartment, officials said.

The conviction came after a three-day trial.

A sentencing hearing is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. April 3.
