DETROIT – A married couple has been charged in the fatal dog mauling of a Detroit man on the city’s west side.
Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Roy Eric Goodman, 40, and Trevina Quiche Goodman, 38, of Detroit, with the death of Harold Phillips, 35.
The incident occurred on Monday (Jan. 29) at 9:20 p.m. when Phillips was walking home from the bus in the area of West Chicago and Longacre.
Phillips was hospitalized after the attack and later died.
The three dogs involved have been euthanized.
“This is heartbreaking,” said Prosecutor Kym Worthy. “I just do not understand why we continue to see unleashed and unsecured dangerous dogs running loose and killing our citizenry. With pet ownership comes responsibility, pure and simple. I do not see what is hard to understand about that.”
Roy was charged in the 36th District Court and given a $25,000 cash bond with the condition that he may not harbor any animals and he is not allowed to have any contact with the victim’s family.
A bond re-determination hearing is scheduled for March 1 at 9 a.m.
The probable cause conference is scheduled for March 6 at 8:30 a.m., and the preliminary examination is scheduled for March 13 at 8:45 a.m.
Trevina was not able to be charged on Wednesday. Her arraignment will be announced when a new date has been confirmed.
