Mother killed in wrong-way crash on Telegraph Road in Taylor

Wrong-way driver was a 32-year-old mother who died at the scene

TAYLOR, Mich. – A 32-year-old woman was killed after driving the wrong way down Telegraph Road in Taylor, crashing into another vehicle.

Police said the crash happened on early Sunday morning, calling it one of the worst crashes they’ve ever seen.

A 32-year-old woman, a mother of a four-year-old, entered Telegraph Road driving southbound on the northbound side, according to a 911 caller. Drivers were honking at the woman, trying to get her to stop, according to police.

She crashed into a 40-year-old man driving a truck on his way to work. The woman died on the scene. The 40-year-old man was transported to a local hospital and was listed in serious condition.

Taylor police said the woman’s family said she was on her way home after a night out with friends in Detroit. Police believe the woman pulled off I-94 and began speeding down Telegraph Road.

Officials say the 4-year-old was at home when her mother died in the accident.

Police say a toxicology is being done in Detroit to see if drugs, alcohol, or a medical condition was the reason for the accident.
