4Warn Weather – A wind advisory was active Wednesday for all of Southeast Michigan due to gusts blowing through the region behind overnight storms.
Blustery winds were moving across Metro Detroit along with a cold front on Wednesday, Feb. 28. Sustained winds were expected to move around 20 mph-30 mph throughout the day, with gusts around 45 mph expected.
The following Southeast Michigan counties were under a wind advisory from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday: Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Monroe, Washtenaw, St. Clair, Livingston, Lapeer, Genesee, Lenawee and Sanilac.
A wind advisory is issued when current winds are strong, but “not so strong as to warrant a high wind warning,” the National Weather Service says. Scattered snow showers are also possible on Wednesday, which could reduce visibility amid the strong winds.
Those in affected counties are encouraged to secure any loose objects, since the wind could blow them around. Tree limbs could also get blown around, which could damage power lines and potentially cause power outages.
Power outages are a particular concern Wednesday afternoon, when temperatures are expected to plummet to their lowest. With the wind chill, temperatures are expected to feel like the teens and single digits by the afternoon. Click here for the latest forecast.

Storms rolled through Metro Detroit overnight into Wednesday morning. While parts of Michigan experienced significant hail, there were also at least two likely tornadoes to touch down. The NWS confirmed that a tornado touched down in Grand Blanc, and it’s suspected that a tornado touched down near Marshall, Michigan.
