CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Police are imploring residents to stay away from the area of a massive distribution plant fire in Clinton Township, saying they “can not stress enough the danger that is happening right now.”

The fire broke out at the Select Distributions plant in the area of 15 Mile Road and Groesbeck Highway.

Dozens of people called into the Local 4 newsroom to report hearing an explosion in the area, and aerial footage showed the flames engulfing the building.

At 10:14 p.m., the Clinton Township Police Department posted a message on Facebook, once again stressing the danger of the situation.

“We can not stress enough the danger that is happening right now,” the post said. “Please, please, please stay inside and out of the vicinity. Debris is being projected into the air and coming down as far as a mile away from the explosion. As we do not know what is burning, we do not know the effects of the smoke/air right now, so please stay out of the area and stay safe.”

Police previously said the impact of the fire is being felt as far as Mt. Clemens.
