WYANDOTTE, Mich. – A staple of Downriver is saying goodbye after nearly a century in business.

Weyands Fisheries in Wyandotte says they are closing up shop on March 30 after 94 years serving seafood product and meals to the Downriver region. They first opened in 1930.

The business said costs have just become too high to stay open.

“After decades of providing quality seafood to the downriver community, we are sad to announce that Weyand Seafoods Retail Store will close permanently as of March 30. This decision is based on the high costs of doing business in today’s environment. The outlook for key markets such as King Crab, are rising and show no sign of easing anytime soon,” the business said in a social media post.

“We will be happy to serve your needs for the next four weeks and hope that you come see us before the curtain closes.”

Weyands offers take-out meals on Fridays. They’re located along the Detroit River, at 471 Biddle Ave.
