HAMTRAMCK, Mich. – Hundreds of people came out for Friday night’s third annual Hamtramck vs Dearborn charity basketball game.
The players were part of a 35 and older community basketball league, with the addition of a few local celebrities for the charity game.
All proceeds will be donated to Palestine and Yemen to help the residents pay for Ramadan necessities.
“Those countries have been devastated with a lot of different things,” organizer Omar Thabet said.
U.S. Representative Rashida Tlaib took the court to shoot some baskets at halftime.
“My family is very involved in this annual tradition now of a game between Dearborn and Hamtramck,” Tlaib said. “It’s competitive, but in a very fun way.”
Last year’s game raised $15,000. They hope to top that this year.
