Birmingham police believe Aron Miranda sold the teen fentanyl less than an hour before he died.

McCarthy’s family said the teen had anxiety and believed he was buying Xanax. The pills were reportedly counterfeit and laced with fentanyl. An attorney alleged McCarthy ingested enough fentanyl to kill two people.

Miranda was arrested by the Birmingham Police Department on Tuesday, March 12.

He was charged Wednesday, March 13, with delivery of a controlled substance causing death, delivery/manufacturing of a controlled substance less than 50 grams and felony firearm.

Miranda was given a $150,000 personal bond. He is expected to return to court for a probable cause hearing March 20.
