WARREN, Mich. – Two former Warren police officers returned to court in connection with an alleged assault following a traffic stop in Center Line.

The incident allegedly occurred on Thursday, July 20, 2023, when officer Dammeon Player, 50, and officer Carlos Taylor, 28, were on shift as uniformed officers for the city of Warren.

Allegedly, both officers conducted a traffic stop on a semi-truck operated by the victim.

The traffic stop was made outside of the officer’s jurisdiction. He allegedly used unnecessary force during the arrest of the victim.

Player was charged with felonious assault (4-year felony) and public official willful failure to uphold the law (1-year misdemeanor).

Taylor was charged with willful failure to uphold the law (1-year misdemeanor) and assault and battery (93-day misdemeanor).

Both men were in Center Line District Court on Wednesday (March 13).

A preliminary exam was scheduled for Player on Wednesday, May 8, at 8:45 a.m., and a final pretrial was scheduled for Taylor at 8:45 a.m. on Wednesday, June 5.

“Our duty is to uphold the law and ensure that justice is served without bias or favoritism. Regardless of one’s uniform, badge, or position, everyone is held equally accountable under the law,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido.
