Federal prosecutors: Warren man spray-painted racist graffiti on church, public park

Bluer faces maximum sentence of 1 year in prison on each charge

MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – A Warren man accused of spray-painting racist graffiti on a church and park bathroom is facing misdemeanor charges in federal court.

Prosecutors said David Bluer, 33, spray-painted swastikas, the word “die,” and other graffiti on a church in Roseville and on a public park bathroom in Warren.

The incidents happened in October 2021. Prosecutors said Bluer spray-painted the racist symbols on the Roseville church because of the race and color of the people associated with the church.

He spray-painted racist graffiit on the public bathroom of Trombly Park in Warren because Black people had been enjoying the park, according to prosecutors.

Bluer has been charged with one count of damaging a religious property and one count of interfering with federally protected activities. He faces a maximum sentence of one year in prison for each misdemeanor charge.

The FBI Detroit Field Office investigated this case.
