ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – A 30-year-old Florida woman running from police was killed after being struck by a vehicle on M-59 in Oakland County on Friday morning.
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said the woman was struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound shortly before 7:30 a.m., as she ran southbound across M-59 west of South Livernois Road. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim has not been identified.

The driver, a 42-year-old Macomb resident, did not stop at the scene, but later turned himself in to police, and is cooperating with investigators. The driver told police he thought he hit some debris until he later heard a woman had been struck.
Police said neither alcohol or drug use by the driver appears to be a factor in the crash.
Police said the woman who was killed was among a group of three suspected in a string of vehicle break-ins at fitness and daycare centers. When police went to arrest the suspects in a parking lot, two men fled from a vehicle they were in, but were arrested after a short foot chase.
The third -- the woman struck by the vehicle -- fled while the other two men were being arrested. She eventually made her way onto M-59, where she was killed.
M-59 was closed for about five hours before reopening Friday afternoon.
Police said the two men are also from Florida. They are expected to be arraigned next week.
