The brother of Michigan Congressman Dan Kildee was shot and killed at a home in Vienna Township.
Police say Timothy was killed by his son during an argument Tuesday (March 19) morning.
After the shooting, police say the son stole a car and crashed it in nearby Genesee Township.
Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson says the son was involved in a separate domestic incident in Burton before he traveled to his father’s home.
There, authorities say, things got heated between Timothy and his son.
“A confrontation was heard by the family member of the other son in the basement, and it was a yelling match, which sometimes is not uncommon, and there was a comment made about ‘Give me your wallet and your keys,”’ said Swanson. “In that verbal confrontation, the son downstairs heard one shot, and that shot took the life of Timothy Kildee.”
Dan released a statement about his brother’s death, saying, “Our family is grieving and heartbroken. There are no words to describe the loss of a beloved brother and family member, especially in such a terrible tragedy.
“I thank the community for honoring my family’s privacy during this very difficult time.”
The son is currently in custody, and charges are pending.
