Officials say the victim reported hearing people talking and moving around in the basement of her home.

The woman said she saw two people with flashlights fleeing out of the basement access door, where several items were noted as missing from the home.

Police say they observed a red GMC Acadia with two people inside that lost control at the subdivision’s entrance at the intersection of Clark Street and Amherst Avenue.

Officials say the vehicle ended up in a ditch, causing the passenger, Victor Villegas, 18, from Lenox Township, exited the vehicle and was immediately arrested.

Police say the driver fled on foot and has not yet been arrested.

Officials say the Acadia was traced to another homeowner in the Amhurst Subdivision. The victim was alerted that the vehicle was stolen from his garage.

Many of the stolen items were recovered inside the vehicle and in the suspect’s possession.
