Police officers targeted in shooting on Detroit’s east side

Officers were on a traffic stop when someone fired shots at them

DETROIT – Detroit police Chief James White spoke out after shots were fired at officers on the city’s east side.

The incident occurred in the area of Harper Street and Seneca Avenue, not far from I-94 and Van Dyke Avenue on Monday (March 18).

White says the officers were on a traffic stop when someone fired shots at them in Detroit.

No one was hurt, but White says the incident was the third time in recent weeks that it has happened.

“It’s very serious,” said White. “I mean when you have someone trying to do their job. Certainly anytime you’re faced with fatal force or or having to use force is very serious. The officers were engaged in traffic stop had absolutely no conflict with the person who was being investigated. And both the officer and the suspect had to duck for cover so it’s very serious.”

A $2,000 reward is being offered for any information that leads to an arrest.

Anyone with information should contact the Detroit Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-Speak Up.
