WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A new roundabout is getting installed near Van Dyke Avenue in northern Macomb County starting this week.

Construction was set to begin the week of March 18 on a new roundabout in Washington Township. The roundabout was replacing the intersection of Campground Road and Van Dyke Avenue near 28 Mile Road, where traffic gets backed up during rush hour.

Crews will also be installing “proper signage and lighting for Macomb Orchard Trail pathways” north and south of the roundabout, officials said.

Below is a look at the roundabout’s design.

The intersection of Campground Road and Van Dyke Avenue will be closed to traffic amid the construction. The project is expected to wrap up in June.

Washington Township says a detour will be posted for drivers, but drivers are still encouraged to find a different route.

Businesses and properties located in the construction zone on Campground Road will still be accessible during the project, officials said. Drivers can travel southbound on Campground Road from the north to access these spaces.
