DETROIT – A woman who jumped out of a vehicle onto I-96 in Detroit over the weekend told police that she believed she was being kidnapped.
On Sunday, March 24, the 31-year-old Detroit woman used a ride-hailing service to order a ride downtown, police said. At around 4:45 p.m., the woman jumped out of the vehicle in the left lane of eastbound I-96 near I-94.
When questioned by police, the woman said she requested a ride downtown, and “panicked” when she saw a sign for Port Huron and thought the driver was “taking her somewhere else,” officials report. She apparently admitted that she was high on marijuana at the time.
The woman was taken to the hospital and was to be “turned over to her family,” MSP said. Her identity was not being released.
The ride-hailing driver involved reportedly called police Sunday during their investigation. He said the woman jumped out of his car after saying “she did not like the route he was taking” to get downtown.
It was not said what service the driver worked for.
Authorities determined there was no evidence of an attempted kidnapping and closed the case. Traffic was disrupted for an investigation Sunday, but but freeway lanes were open to traffic as of Monday.
