DETROIT – Construction in preparation for the 2024 NFL Draft will affect traffic in Downtown Detroit starting this week.
The city is preparing to welcome potentially hundreds of thousands of people at the end of April for this year’s draft events. The events will span across the downtown area, from Campus Martius Park through Hart Plaza on the Detroit Riverfront. The main stage will be in Campus Martius.
All of this to say: Construction will cause road closures and affect residents and workers moving throughout the city.
This week, officials announced the first wave of closures -- which will begin Friday, March 29 and last until Tuesday, May 7. The first phase of closures will primarily focus on the perimeter of the event’s main stage.
Here are the Downtown Detroit road closures that will begin on March 29:
- Randolph Street between Macomb Street and Fort Street.
- Monroe Street between North Woodward Avenue and Randolph Street.
- Farmer Street between Randolph and Bates streets (garage access only).
- Bates Street (no through traffic).
- Farmer Street from Randolph to Bates streets.

Additional closures are expected to be announced as the draft gets closer. It’s known that East Jefferson Avenue will be impacted during construction at Hart Plaza.
Officials said they will share information about additional closures after the first wave of closures has been implemented.
The draft will run as a three-day event between Thursday, April 25 and Saturday, April 27. The event is free to attend, though visitors will need to download the NFL OnePass app.
