Disguised thief goes on shopping spree with cloned credit card from Macomb Township senior citizen

The crime has created significant problems for the Macomb County senior

MACOMB TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A person in disguise went on a shopping spree using a credit card cloned from a Macomb Township senior citizen living miles away.

The crime has created significant problems for the Macomb County senior, who is now involved in a bitter battle with her credit card company over money she didn’t spend.

“I’ve lost a lot of sleep,” said Margaret Morris.

Morris is stressed she’s caught up in a surprising credit card scam, and it may be connected to the person caught by surveillance cameras shopping in disguise using her cloned credit cards.

Morris lives in Macomb Township, but her Barclays credit card has been busy raking up charges at a Detroit Home Depot, where $600 was charged.

There was also a charge at a motel in Redford called The Dorchester, where she was billed $80 for a room.

“It’s been really upsetting, really difficult trying to get information out of the credit card company,” said Margaret’s daughter Tina Morris.

Tina has been working on clearing the charges but has had no luck.

“They sent a letter that said that she’s responsible on March 5,” Tina said. “Clearly, my mom didn’t make these purchases.”

Help Me Hank reached out to the credit card company, and an investigation is now underway.

We’ve connected them with the police, and the investigation will soon be over. Margaret will not be responsible for the fraudulent charges.

“I do feel better that this is going to help other people and potentially help other people and potentially change the way that they deal with the customer,” Tina said.

“Unfortunately, all too often, scammers target seniors because they might be more trusting or might be more vulnerable to the specific scam. This case of credit card fraud is troubling as it involves multiple jurisdictions over several days.”
