Supermajority welcomes hundreds to Michigan Women’s History Month Day of Action

National women’s equality organization hosts event

DETROIT – The IBEW 58 Hall in Detroit was filled with a sea of pink as a group of women from across Michigan gathered to mark the end of Women’s History Month in a big way.

“We are nonpartisan,” said Tashawna Gill, Michigan Lead for Supermajority. “Our job is to empower women around women issues.”

Supermajority is a national women’s equality organization.

“We organize around five principles called supermajority rules which are our lives are safe, our bodies are respected, our families are supported, our work is valued and most importantly that our government represents us,” said Jara Butler, Supermajority Chief Impact Officer.

Saturday, Supermajority welcomed more than 200 women as well as city and state leaders to their Michigan Women’s History Month Day of Action.

“We have a lot of UAW members here, women from different organizations, Mom’s Demand Action, LEEC organizations and our members,” Gill said.

“We’re hoping to get this entire group of people out knocking on doors, making phone calls, talking to voters because we know if you talk to voters early they’re most likely to come out and we’re targeting specifically women and women of color because we know they are going to make a difference this year,” Butler said.
