Bodycam video: First responders save life of 18-month-old in Sterling Heights

Responding officer immediately began CPR upon arrival

STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. – Dramatic body camera footage captured first responders safe the life of an 18-month-old in Sterling Heights.

The incident happened at about 3:30 p.m. Feb. 19 at the Dream Dollar store on 15 Mile Road. The Sterling Heights Police Department received a 911 that alerted them to a toddler who had stopped breathing. According to authorities, Officer Potts arrived and immediately began to administer chest compressions when he did not feel a heartbeat. Once fire crews arrived, the baby was given to firefighters, who continued CPR as they transported them to Corewell Health Hospital.

Health officials said the quick actions of the first responders helped save the child’s life.

Potts and the Sterling Heights Fire Department will be recognized with an award during a presentation Friday, April 5.
