CANTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Canton Township police arrested three men linked to a string of car thefts across Metro Detroit.
Brandon Blackshire, 21, Dawayne Crutchfield, 20, and Demetrius Winkfield, 21, were taken into custody March 20 in Allen Park.
Officials said the men were found with a car that had been stolen in Northville Township.
Two illegal handguns were also found when Crutchfield and Winkfield were arrested, according to police.
Blackshire is charged with receiving and concealing a stolen motor vehicle, assaulting/resisting/obstructing a police officer, and habitual offender -- fourth offense.
Crutchfield is charged with receiving and concealing a stolen motor vehicle, assaulting/resisting/obstructing a police officer, carrying a concealed weapon, felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition, three felony firearm violations, and habitual offender -- second offense.
Winkfield is charged with receiving and concealing a stolen motor vehicle, assaulting/resisting/obstructing a police officer, carrying a concealed weapon, felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition, three felony firearm violations, and habitual offender -- third offense.
All three men were arraigned March 21 at 24th District Court and given $50,000 cash bonds. They must wear GPS tethers, if they’re released.
The next court appearance is scheduled for April 22.
There was also an active warrant for Crutchfield’s arrest for a car theft in 2022, officials said. In that case, he is charged with unlawful driving away of a motor vehicle and receiving and concealing a motor vehicle.
Crutchfield was arraigned at 35th District Court on the 2022 case and given a $50,000 cash bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for Friday, April 5, 2024.
The arrests were made by the Canton Police Department’s Special Operations Group and the Northville Township Police Department.
