SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The Southfield Police Department released video of the shooting inside the Chipotle on Evergreen Road last Friday that left a worker injured.
Police said 32-year-old Aaron Brown of Detroit called a Chipotle female employee a derogatory name. He was upset about his serving of guacamole, they said.
Brown is then seen on surveillance video going around the counter and packing his order and some guacamole.
When a worker tries to stop him, Brown attacks him.
Shortly after that, police say Brown fired a shot, hitting the 21-year-old employee in the knee.
“The occupants in the Chipotle began to run for safety, exiting the restaurant, while Mr. Brown calmly collected his food and left,” said Southfield police Chief Elvin Barren.
Police say Brown drove off with his wife, but he was taken into custody not long after the shooting.
Southfield police also released video of Brown’s arrest.
“You add the fact that this happened right across the street from the police station,” Barren said. “So, what’s the nerve of that? You think you are going to get away with it?”
Police said Brown had a valid permit for the gun.
He’s now charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, weapons – discharge in or at a building causing injury, and possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
“That’s why we have to take these gun crimes very serious in this country because these individuals are getting ahold of these weapons,” Barren said. “They’re not understanding the importance of knowing when you use the weapon. You use weapons for a life-threatening encounter. This was certainly not a life-threatening encounter.”
The worker, who was injured in the shooting, was shot in the knee. Police said they’re hopeful that there will not be any permanent damage to the victim’s knee.
