DETROIT – There’s a new second-tallest building in Michigan behind the Renaissance Center’s 727 feet.
Thursday, April 11, was a big milestone for the Hudson’s site as crews placed the final steel construction beam on its tower, marking its height at 681 feet, more than 50 feet taller than the Ally Detroit Center.
The Ally Detroit Center is now the third tallest building in the state.
The building on the former Hudson site will have an estimated 1.5 million square feet available for retail, office, dining, hospitality, residential and event space. Construction on the development has been ongoing since Bedrock broke ground in 2017.
The Hudson site isn’t the tallest structure under construction in the city, as the Gordie Howe International Bridge tower on the Detroit side of the river has reached a height of 722 feet, just five feet shorter than the RenCen.
The initial plans for the building at the Hudson’s site on Woodward Avenue had the structure at 912 feet tall, but that plan was scaled back in 2020.
Crews will continue to install the building’s glass facade and construction will continue through the spring.
