ALLEN PARK, Mich. – Two sisters who had been missing for a month after leaving their Detroit home in March were found at a hotel with two men much older than them.
Police believe their disappearance may have been linked to sex trafficking.
Two 14-year-old twin sisters willingly left their Detroit home on March 8. It was the second time they had done so, officials said.
Weeks later, on March 29, Allen Park police were called to a Comfort Inn hotel. It was there that an officer recognized the missing sisters.
Allen Park police had body cameras rolling when they discovered the girls inside a hotel room with two men in their 30s.
“I know who you guys are, and I know who’s looking for you,” an officer could be heard saying.
“You don’t know me, so stop acting like you do,” one of the twins told the officer.
According to police, the girls did not want to leave the men they were with inside the hotel room. It wasn’t immediately clear how the girls knew the men, or why they were together.
One of the men was arrested for harboring missing children, as well as fraud -- the credit card used to book the hotel room was stolen. It wasn’t clear if the other man was facing arrest, as well.
Authorities are still investigating how the vulnerable girls ended up at the hotel, and where they’ve been for the past month. While it’s still early in the investigation, officials believe it’s possible that this may have been an attempt at trafficking the young girls.
The sisters were reunited with their family after being found.
