2 adults were arrested as well

WESTLAND, Mich. – A Westland police officer was nearly hit by an alleged stolen car fleeing the scene of a crash. All of it was captured on video, including the chase that ensued.

Police say they were alerted to a stolen car near an apartment complex on Hunter Avenue early Thursday (April 11) morning.

According to police, when the driver spotted police, they tried to take off and crashed into a garage, causing serious property damage.

The video shows the car narrowly missing the police officer as it took off.

The allegedly stolen vehicle hit the side of the officer’s car.

The chase ended a few minutes later when the car crashed again. This time, it hit a light post at the intersection of Ford Road and Central City Parkway.

According to police, a 15-year-old female was behind the wheel, and two other minors, ages 12 and 13, were in the car.

The 15-year-old was taken to the juvenile detention center, and the two other minors were turned over to their parents, and criminal complaints were forwarded to the Wayne County Juvenile Court for each.

Police also arrested two adults who were allegedly in the car.

James Hayes, 18, and Kahari Thomas, 18, were each charged with a felony count of receiving and concealing stolen property.
