FRENCHTOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. – The sixth person involved in the catfishing and eventual murder of a Monroe woman at an abandoned facility has entered a plea in the case.
Six people were arrested and charged after the body of Kayla Sedoskey, 23, of Monroe, was found March 2, 2023, at the abandoned Boysville Facility in Frenchtown Township.
Sedoskey’s ex-boyfriend, Steven Bails, conspired with five others -- Brin Smith, Kaylyn Ramsey, Narena Bails, Sierra Bemis, and Alexander Feko -- to kill her after multiple disagreements, police said.
Officials said the group devised a plan to have Smith pretend to show interest in dating Sedoskey, so he used Facebook to catfish her and schedule a date.
On Feb. 15, 2023, Smith picked Sedoskey up and drove her to the abandoned facility, according to authorities.
Steven Bails, Ramsey, and Bemis were waiting at the facility when Smith and Sedoskey arrived, officials said. When she went inside, Sedoskey was shot three times with a .22-caliber handgun, police said.
Narena Bails listened to a police scanner and was supposed to notify the group if cops were sent to Boysville, according to a release.
Feko got rid of the gun after the murder, police said.
The day after the murder, Steven Bails, Smith, Ramsey, and Bemis went back to Boysville to hide Sedoskey’s body and cover its scent with fragrances, officials said.
Steven Bails, Narena Bails, and Smith fled the state after police found Sedoskey’s body. Steven Bails and Narena Bails were arrested after a standoff in North Carolina in April 2023.
Steven Bails was convicted by a jury on March 21, 2024, of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit homicide.
Narena Bails, Smith, and Bemis pleaded no contest to second-degree murder.
Feko pleaded guilty to tampering with evidence and three counts of accessory to homicide after the fact.
On Monday, April 15, Ramsey, 33, of Wakeman, Ohio, became the sixth person to plead in the case. She pleaded no contest to second-degree murder at 38th Circuit Court of Monroe.
She was scheduled to stand trial in mid-May. Now, as part of her plea, she faces at least 40 years in prison.
