DETROIT – The fight to beautify Detroit and turn vacant housing into forever homes for residents is gaining momentum.
One neighborhood in Detroit is getting a facelift as several duplexes on Mapleridge Street are being renovated. It’s not only transforming neglected spaces but also providing opportunities for homeowners to build wealth.
The Mapleridge duplexes are near Gratiot Avenue and McNichols Road on the city’s east side.
With the chance to own a home at 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI) and rent out the second unit to someone at 60% AMI, families are experiencing the joy of homeownership and a sense of security for their children’s future.
Mayor Mike Duggan said he sees the renovations as another positive indicator of Detroit’s growth, as the renovated duplexes contribute to the city’s wealth and provide a beautiful living space for multiple families.
