8-year-old boy in critical condition after accidentally shooting himself in Warren apartment

Officials say the child was responsive to pain stimuli

WARREN, Mich. – An 8-year-old boy is in critical condition after he accidentally shot himself in the face in Warren.

Officials say the boy got a hold of an unsecured handgun at the Cove on 10 Apartment Complex on 10 Mile and Hoover roads on Friday (April 19) at 3:30 p.m.

The 8-year-old boy has been rushed to St. John Hospital in Detroit, where he has been listed in critical condition.

Officials say the child was responsive to pain stimuli.

Police say both parents were home at the time of the incident, and investigators say it does not appear that foul play was involved.
