DETROIT – Police say two women, who they believe are 18 years old, and two children, ages six and three, have been shot while in the park on Detroit’s west side.

The incident occurred at 8:55 p.m. on Wednesday (May 1) when officials from the 6th Precinct responded to Westfield and Faust avenues, where they encountered four victims.

“Two of the victims are children ages three and six,” said Detroit police Chief James White. “The two adults are approximately 18-year-old females, and one of the 18-year-olds is pregnant.”

Officials say the two women confronted each other, but they don’t know what led to the incident. It somehow turned physical.

Police say one of the women got the best of the other one who called a man over who had a gun in his backpack firing four shots, hitting the four victims.

“All four victims are at area hospitals, a total of three separate hospitals,” White said. “The two children’s conditions are stable, but because of their age, they are going through a lot of tests. The two adult females are in serious condition at this time.”

The two children that were shot had nothing to do with the confrontation, according to police, as they appeared to just be in the park at the time.

Officials are looking for a Black teenage girl and a Black teenage man, but police are tapping into all video assets in the vicinity, including witnesses, as there have been no arrests as of 12 a.m. Thursday (May 2).

This is a breaking news story, and updates will be posted as they become available.
