WARREN, Mich. – An urgent situation has prompted the apartment management company to take immediate action following an incident where one of its tenants fell through the floor.
Lisa Darby, 50, was rescued by firefighters Tuesday (April 30) after her leg got stuck in the hole where the floor caved in at Warren Manner Apartments.
On Wednesday, the apartment management company had yet to go to the unit to check on the damage.
In response to Local 4, the apartment management company has assured that they are taking the incident seriously and have immediate plans to inspect the unit.
“We also will be inspecting the unit tomorrow, May 2, 2024, with the City of Warren to ensure that any maintenance issues that are present will be addressed promptly,” Warren Manor Apartments said in a statement.
The apartment complex said they offered Darby a new place to stay. However, Darby told us she would be leaving the complex immediately.
Darby and her family claim they reported the soft spots on the floor from day one, but Warren Manor denies that claim, adding that they took over ownership of the complex in November 2023.
“You should have had things in order before you took the responsibility of ownership,” Darby’s mom, Darlene Moltrie, said.
A spokesperson with the city of Warren said Warren Manor passed its last inspection in March 2024.
“The Warren Building Department, out of an abundance of caution, will be deploying inspectors to conduct safety inspections,” said in a statement on behalf of Warren Mayor Lori Stone.
