May is off to a mild (and wet) start in Michigan -- what should we expect for the rest of the month?

The National Weather Service and NOAA released their updated monthly weather outlook for May last week. The predictions are based on probability vs. normal averages, and can help show possible trends in the longer range forecast.

Macomb County man shoots neighbor for talking to his girlfriend, police say

A Macomb County man shot his neighbor because he thought the other man had been in contact with his girlfriend, officials said.

Police said Steven Cole, 32, of Clinton Township, confronted his neighbor on April 25, 2024, because Cole believed the neighbor had had contact with his girlfriend.

Wooden steamship that ‘went missing’ 112 years ago found at bottom of Lake Superior

A wooden steamship that went missing 112 years ago with 14 people presumed dead was found at the bottom of Lake Superior.

The Adella Shores is one of many ships that “went missing” in the area of Whitefish Point, Michigan. According to the GLSHS, the phrase “went missing” is used to describe a vessel that left the dock and was never seen again. There are no survivors, no witnesses, and no recovered wreckage.

Hazmat clean up to close eastbound I-96 at Beck Road in Novi on Sunday

A section of eastbound I-96 in Novi will be closed on Sunday, May 5, so hazmat can clean up a crash site.

A semi truck crashed on Thursday, April 18, 2024, in the eastbound lanes of I-96, near Beck Road.

Eastbound I-96 between Beck and Novi roads will be closed from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m., on Sunday, May 5, so hazmat crews can clean up the area. The Wixom Road ramps will also be closed.

The detour will use eastbound Grand River Avenue. Drivers are being warned to expect delays.
