MADISON HEIGHTS, Mich. – A crash on I-696 in Madison Heights hospitalized two people suspected of impaired driving early Sunday, May 5.
The crash happened near Dequindre Road at about 4:30 a.m. According to authorities, a Chrysler 300 was driving eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-696 when they struck a Jeep Grand Cherokee head-on.

Police said the driver of the Chrysler, a 40-year-old man from Eastpointe, was determined to be impaired and was taken to a hospital for treatment and a blood draw.
The driver of the Jeep, a 52-year-old man from Indiana, also reportedly showed signs of impairment. Police said he had sustained injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment and a blood draw.
The investigation is ongoing.
Michigan State Police said troopers arrested 13 impaired drivers in Metro Detroit over the weekend.
