Police said they were called around 2:30 a.m. May 1, 2024, to a home in the 25100 block of Colgate Street.
Officers found a 41-year-old Dearborn Heights man in the bathroom with a gunshot wound to his neck. He was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Police believe the man got into an argument with his girlfriend, Leah Renee Johnson, 30, of Dearborn Heights. The argument escalated, and Johnson shot her boyfriend with a handgun, officials said.
“Relationship issues continue to plague our community, with aggravated assault, stalking, and assault and battery occupying the top tier of criminal activity,” Dearborn Heights police Chief Jerrod Hart said.
Johnson was arrested and charged with assault with intent to murder and a felony firearm violation. She was arraigned at 20th District Court in Dearborn Heights and given a $500,000 bond.
She must wear a GPS tether, if released.
